Blue Box (2011 – 2012)
A power supply box utilizing an ATX PSU. The enclosure was recycled from a piece of thrown out school equipment. 12, -12, 5, 3.3V from the PSU will be bought to posts on the front panel. A adjustable voltage regulator will be incorporated to provide variable voltages with input from a rotary switch. Voltage and current are monitored by a arduino-based board (custom) and displayed on a 2X16 LCD. Input to the arduino is in the form of a rotary switch (or rotary encoder and possibly buttons). The stock PSU fan is used internally and a 120mm temperature controlled fan is used on the front panel. The panel is made from MDF.
Ticki (2010 – 2012)
An arduino based clock using a Chronodot RTC for timekeeping. The goal is to recycle parts from previous projects as well as make a compact and beautiful timepiece that will be running continuously wall powered. The display is a compact 4-digit, 7-segment LED display that requires multiplexing to function. A temperature sensor is incorporated to measure the ambient temperature and display it. Three buttons are used to navigate the modes, which current include: time, month/date, temperature, time setting, and month/date setting. 99% completed.
RepRap (2010 – 2011)
A sustainability project for a professor. A Mendel RepRap with plastic parts printed from a RapMan is being constructed. Goals are to document build process, experiment with extruder options and settings, and integrate with an OLPC. OLPC integration would allow a basic but fully functional stand-alone printer. To be completely self sustaining, banks of solar cells will be used as the power source. 70% completed.
Robotic Platform (2010 – 2012)
A RBBB based monitor/remote for a mobile sensor platform. It controls the movement of the platform through an accelerometer. A thumb joystick is used to control an sensor turret on the platform. Buttons are the navigation inputs for the monitor which displays sensor information on a 20×4 LCD screen. 80% completed.
